Time for an alignment check

Have you ever let go of the wheel when you’re driving? It’s an easy way to see if your car’s alignment might need to be adjusted. And just like you should check the alignment of your car from time to time, it’s a good idea to check the alignment of your life and finances, too.

While checking the alignment of your life and finances isn’t as straightforward as checking your car’s alignment, here’s a question that can help get you started:

When your mind wonders, where does it go?

Aligning your life with your finances requires figuring out what you want and where you aspire to be in the first place. Answering this question will provide some insight into what and where you might want to focus your time, attention, and resources.

For example, as my mind wanders while writing this post, I find myself thinking about my family, playing tennis, and spending time at the lake. A quick review of my own finances validates that while my spending is aligned with my family and playing tennis, spending more time at the lake is something I need to be more intentional about.

What about you? What do you uncover when you ask and answer this question?

Even if you’ve asked yourself this question before, it’s important to revisit this question and ask yourself again. As your life changes so will your answer. And when your answer changes, realignment might become necessary, too.

Remember that you only get one shot at your life. So let’s make sure you’re being intentional about aligning your finances with the life you really want for yourself.
