The best portfolio you can own

I believe the best portfolio is one that uniquely serves your long-term best interests no matter what the market might do along the way.

As a financial planner, I’m less interested in short term investment performance than I am in long term investor behavior. That’s because short term investment performance remains largely outside of your control while good long term investor behavior is fully within your control and an essential part of creating the lifestyle you want.

With this concept in mind, you can zoom out beyond your investment portfolio and look at all the pieces that make up your financial well-being – things like your income, savings, spending, current & longer term goals, and overall cash flow. When you do, you quickly start to realize that your investments are just one of many levers that you can adjust to find the right combination that works for you.

That’s why building out a financial framework that’s unique to your specific priorities and values is so important. Because it might just be the best way to give you the financial comfort and confidence you need to keep your long-term best interests front and center – no matter what the markets might do.
