Moving from "more" to "enough"

Allow me to let you in on a little secret…

No amount of money is ever going to make you feel 100% safe and secure.

The first 15 or 20 years of our careers are typically spent chasing that elusive sense of safety and security. We’re trying to prove to ourselves, our family, our friends, and our neighbors that we’ve “made it” in this world.

But guess what…

No one is handing out “made it” diplomas signaling the completion of this life stage!

It’s on us to make that determination for ourselves. And with no clear beginning or end, we often continue to play the “made it” game long after we are already “there.”

I’m not suggesting that we don’t aspire to nicer, bigger, or better things in our lives. Rather, let’s just recognize – out loud! – that the acquisition of those  things is NOT the only thing standing between us and eternal happiness.

So how do we move on from chasing “more” to feeling like we have “enough”?

We begin by changing what we’re optimizing for.

Start prioritizing your time and attention over the attainment of more money and status.

Take a closer look at what  and who you spend your time and attention on. What’s serving you well? What isn’t? And what served you well in the past that no longer fits?

Your answers to these questions will help you make sure you’re aligning your financial resources in service of what really matters most to you – both now and your best guesses for your future.
